This game is currently in Pre-Alpha and is not yet a minimum viable project. Development started early January 2022 & hopefully releasing by 2023
This early demo is for friends/family to track development and to find more experienced game developers with game maker studio 2 to talk with about expanding the scope of my project, possibly as a consultant or collaborator. Im either fixing or learning how to fix all the bugs and it runs 20x slower on the HTML version
The HTML version is still lagging a bit and wont format right for mobile yet, but the windows version runs 10-20 times faster than it needs to.
The viewport is 540 wide by 960 tall so im not sure why its cutting the edges off for mobile browsers
INSTRUCTIONS:
***Use the left/right arrows or touch the left/right thirds of the screen to move your paddle. Tapping the center third of the screen above the menu icon also activates the space bar.
The screen scrolls, but the ball always bounces at the edge of your view. You can use this to change the trajectory of the ball and position the screen in ways to keep the ball in the air better or use it to drag the ball through a group of bricks or enemies!
Choose three characters to be on your paddle. They each have unique abilities and take damage individually; if one dies your paddle will shrink.***
Coming in the proper Alpha version:
- Sound
- Better balanced stats
- Multimap levels
- Better menu design, title screen, instruction page, settings, etc.
- Use coins to purchase upgrades for each character between levels
- Ability to bring a 4th character on multimap levels so you can change your party between levels
- A choice of randomized stipulations to be applied to each multimap level
- New types of bricks that either resists magic or physical damage or require a certain number of direct hits from the ball to destroy
- Sword enemies which will hit the ball quickly, displaying the trajectory of the ball before it launches
- Special ability for every unit that is only usable if they are the leader that charges and you tap/press space to activate
- Redesigned UI for character selection/upgrades/artifacts
- Bug fixes
Longer term goals for Beta:
- Original sound track
- Ability to acquire artifacts which you retain throughout your run
- Artifacts will also be able to be equipped directly to characters (if the character can equip it) for additional buffs.
- Unique items that only appear in bricks if a character is active on your squad
- Treasure chests which contain special items, extra coins, artifacts, etc
- Randomized events between some levels
- Procedurally generated levels
- Boss levels and elite enemies
- More enemy types and a new cave environment
- At least 2 more player characters. Possibly many more
- Status effects for player characters. Ice slip movement, lightning temporary paralysis, poison that affects whole party
- Dungeon exploration mode where you can move through rooms by getting the ball to go through doors, if you lose your ball you fall to previous room and the door closes
- Wizard tournament mode where you have 4 or 5 rounds to win the map and the ball speeds up as each round goes on, ending when you lose the ball or the round time is up
- Get it running like a god damn champ
Known issues: Ball sticking on scenery, Ball not starting in right place sometimes, assassin and blue wizard not centered when moving left/right, HTML5 version runs like trash on mobile, character selection is not playtester proof, menu skips of you click where the next rooms button is (needs redesign)
